Al Qaeda financier arrested in Karachi’s Defence raid

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Wednesday claimed to have arrested an alleged financier of al Qaeda in a raid on Karachi’s Defence area.

According to a press release, a special CTD team led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Naved Khawaja arrested Sheeba Ahmed whose name was disclosed by the Safoora bus attack accused during the investigation.

The accused, a resident of the Defence Housing Authority, confessed to having links with the Tanzeem-e-Islami.

Ahmed was running a chemical business in Pakistan and in other neighbouring Islamic countries and was using the revenue proceeds from abroad to finance terrorists in Pakistan.

“Sheeba Ahmed not only prepared the Safoora attackers mentally, but also extended complete financial support for execution of the Ismaili community carnage,” the CTD claimed.

It further said that Hasan Ghazali, an accused, arrested from Lahore had revealed that Sheeba was providing financial support to a hospital in Lahore for treatment of injured terrorists.
