IHC orders release of Mufti Ehsan, prime accused in Mazarba scandal

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday accepted interim bail plea of Mufti Ehsan, the prime accused in Mazarba scandal, and ordered his release against two sureties in the sum of Rs 100 million each.

The court also ordered the placing of Mufti Ehsan’s name in Exit Control List (ECL).

A two-member bench of IHC comprising Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui and Justice Athar Minullah took up the case for hearing.

Advocate Imran Abbasi and advocate Abdul Rashid Murrawat appeared on behalf of the petitioner while advocate Sardar Muzaffar Ahmad represented NAB.

The court also ordered the accused to pay Rs 100 million to the affectees within a month, adding that if the accused failed to make the payment his bail would be cancelled. The accused would be bound to pay Rs 8 billion to the affectees in phases over 20 months.

The court also accepted bail pleas of four other co-accused including Nazir Ahmad, Ubaid Ullah, Hafiz Mukhtar Khan and Osama Qureshi against sureties in the sum of Rs 10 million each.

The court fixed October 16 as the date for the next hearing in the case.
