A poor Christian man’s house was allegedly set ablaze over a monetary dispute.

Talking to Pakistan Today, Boota Masih claimed that more than 10 men and two women attacked his house and forced him to vacate the premises. After he refused, the assailants allegedly attacked him with iron rods and sticks.

According to him, the assailants locked the family in a room and set it on fire. Boota said that he broke the door and barely managed to save his family from the fire. The family had minor injuries but no one died. Local Christians came to rescue the family and put out the flames, and called fire brigade.

Masih said that he had purchased a small house of 2.5 marla from Ghulam Ali for Rs 1.4 million of which Rs 0.4 million were to be paid in six months’ time. Boota said that after a few months, Ghulam started pressurising him for payment of the outstanding money.

A police official of the local police station said that an FIR would be registered after investigation. Meanwhile, Masih said that a local court had summoned Ghulam Ali and the local police on Sept 17 to explain their position in the case.
