Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday said that continuous democracy always strengthened nations and brought stability, prosperity and peace hence any attempt to derail or subjugate democracy in Pakistan would be strongly resisted across the country.

On International Day of Democracy, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that democracies had always suffered due to conspiracies by undemocratic elements. “Thus the need of unity among people and their institutions becomes immensely necessary to thwart a few individuals’ ulterior motives to harm democracy,” he said.

“People of Pakistan have always stood for democracy and under the democratic leadership fought valiantly against the dictatorial forces that attacked and usurped the right of franchise of the people,” said Bilawal.

He said that fight against democracy had not ended as dictatorial forces always imposed themselves in different camouflages to deceive the masses. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the PPP leadership and workers had sacrificed their lives and blood for people’s right to have a democratic society based on equality and justice.

He reiterated that the PPP would continue to offer its sacrifices in the light of mission of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

The PPP chairman pointed out that dictatorships created monsters of extremism and terrorism to threaten the people and subjugate them and it had been on record that only democratic governments launched operations against terrorism to eliminate them. He pledged to continue to promote democracy and protect it from threats from any reincarnating dictatorial force.
