Concern on indirect election process

A ‘Joint Action Committee Minority Development Institute on Monday expressed concern over the election procedure for women, youth, and minority councilors in coming local government elections.

Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club, a member of the committee Asad Iqbal Batt said all candidates including women, youth and minorities should have equal rights and privileges as per the constitution of Pakistan. He said process of indirect election of chairman and vice chairman of union council or union committee was against the equal rights of citizens. He said that the committee would lodge a petition against this indirect selection process.

Committee members Mehnaz-ur-Rehman, Latif Mughal and others were also present on the occasion.
