Ayyan Ali’s indictment in currency smuggling case deferred again

Super model Ayyan Ali appeared before a Customs Court for the sixteenth time in the currency smuggling case onTuesday, however, her indictment has been deferred once again.

Judge Rana Aftab Ahmed heard the case. Customs authorities told court that challan against the accused could not be presented because the matter is subjudice at the high court. They said copy of high court’s decision has not been received yet.

Ayyan Ali’s counsel Latif Khosa told the court that the court gave verdict in his client’s favour and the state is also respondent in the case.

On this, Judge Rana Aftab Ahmed adjourned indictment of the accused till copy of the high court’s order is received.

The case hearing was adjourned till September 28.

Ayyan Ali was detained at the Islamabad airport on March 14 as she waited in a VIP lounge before her Dubai flight. Pakistani law bars any passenger from carrying over $10,000 and investigators say they found $506,800 tucked into her luggage. She has maintained the money was solely hers since her arrest.
