PTI challenges Ayaz Sadiq’s eligibility in ECP to contest from NA-122

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has challenged former National Assembly (NA) speaker Ayaz Sadiq’s eligibility in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday

According to a local media, PTI’s candidate Shoaib Siddiqui challenged Sadiq’s eligibility as election candidate for NA-122 constituency.

The petition filed in the ECP stated that Sadiq was fined at least Rs 25 lac. He neither paid the fine nor got stay from the court. Thus, the petition further stated that, Sadiq is not eligible under Article 62 and Article 63.

62. Qualifications for membership of Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament):

  1. A person shall not be qualified to be elected or chosen as a member of Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament) unless-    f.  he is sagacious, righteous and non-profligate, honest and ameen, there being no declaration to the contrary by a court of law;

63. Disqualifications for membership of Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament):

  1. A person shall be disqualified from being elected or chosen as, and from being, a member of the Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament), if:-                                                                                                                                                                             b. he is an undischarged insolvent

The plea requested the ECP to declare Sadiq ineligible for the election.
