Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the Attabad Tunnel along the Karakoram Highway on Monday.
Minister for Kashmir Affairs Barjees Tahir, Gilgit-Baltistan Governor, Chief Minister, and Chinese ambassador were present on the occasion.
Upon his arrival the Prime Minister was received by Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan and was given a briefing on the details of the project which includes five tunnels, two bridges and a 16-kilometer stretch of road.
The tunnel is part of a 24 kilometer realignment project which has been completed in collaboration with China.
The project was launched after a big portion of the Karakoram Highway was damaged in 2010 due to land sliding. The project has been completed with the collaboration of China.
