Sindh Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Monday requested the citizens to give preference to collective and mass sacrifices of animals at one spot in their areas during Eid-ul-Azha so that the municipal bodies could easily lift offal from the streets.

“We will try to deliver our best performance to facilitate the citizens. Cleanliness will be made before, during and after the Eid in the city by all the municipal organisations,” he said while addressing press briefing at Civic Center after meeting with officers regarding offal lifting during five days of Eid-ul-Azha – Bohri community sacrifice animals a day before Eid and some people sacrifice on the fourth day.

He warned district municipal corporations and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to resolve their internal conflicts and refrain from dumping garbage and offal in each others’ jurisdictions.

“Strong cooperation among different organizations would bring them good name. Infamy of one municipal organisation is infamy of all the municipal organisations, whether it is a DMC or KMC. The municipal organizations would be given incentive for good work and held accountable for bad,” he said.

The minister said maintenance and repairing of vehicles would be completed before Eid and the vehicles that can’t be repaired would be disposed of.

He said commissioner Karachi would supervise and monitor disbursement and utilization of funds for municipal work with other relevant officers. Administrator and metropolitan commissioner themselves would visit areas to check cleanliness.

Responding to a question, he said many corrupt officers and employees had been identified in KMC departments and that their names would soon be made public. The officers who had been proven corrupt would no longer hold any post.

“We do not object to action against corruption or criminal activities by any institution whether it is Rangers, National Accountability Bureau or FIA. However, the process of taking action needs rectification,” he said. “Files are taken without making entry,” he complained.

Answering another question, Shah said FIA was investigating bank fraud issues in different cities of the province.
