SHC summons officials in case of lady doctors’ regularisation

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed the focal person of health department to make sure his attendance on the next hearing as well on the petition of women doctors seeking regularization.

Dr Iqbal, a focal person of health department, appeared before the court on behalf of Secretary Health. He stated that the department held a meeting to review this issue. It was decided to regularize these doctors and their names have been sent to Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah, for the approval.

SHC has directed focal person of health department, to make sure his attendance on the next hearing as well and tell the court about the progress.

SHC bench headed by Justice Muneeb Akhtar was hearing the petition filed by 16 women doctors. The petitioners, Dr Zaib-un-Nisa, Dr Fatima, Dr Iqbal Jahan and others serving as women medical officers in the National Child & Health Program of Sindh, were seeking their job regularization.

The petitioners stated that they have been serving in the National Child & Health Program since 2010, but they are not being treated as regular doctors. The petitioners stated that despite being medical officers they are deprived of basic facilities.

They prayed to the court to direct the respondents to make contract women medical officers regularize and facilitate them as regular employees.
