Online report claims JC has also accused Sharif govt of causing further losses to project by appointing incompetent officials

The Judicial Commission (JC) has held the Ministry of Law and Justice for the delay in Nandipur power project and causing a loss of Rs 113 billion while the incumbent government has also shown criminal negligence in further delay of the important project.

The judicial commission comprising Justice (r) Rahmat Hussain Jaffary was formed by the Supreme Court to probe the Nandipur power project. It has no finalized its report, claimed Online.

The commission was launched following a constitutional petition filed in the SC by Khawaja Muhammad Asif.

As per report of the judicial commission, the federal government has shown criminal negligence in the project’s completion. The national exchequer has suffered a loss of Rs 113 billion because of the Ministry of Law and Justice’s negligence during the Pakistan People’s Party regime. A further loss of Rs 84 billion has been caused by the Sharif government which chose to run the plants on gas even though there was inadequate supply.

The report also criticizes the Sharif government of appointing incompetent officials for project oversight, which had contributed to the delay in making it operational.

The Nandipur project was launched during the era of former caretaker PM Mian Muhammad Samroo on Dec, 27th, 2007. The (then) total cost of project was $329 billion and the Economic Committee of Cabinet (ECC) had approved it in 2007 when the Finance Ministry told the government it would manage a loan for the project.
