Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Minister for Information and Higher Education Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani on Saturday said that the government believes in gender equity and women’s role as an active variable shaping a more democratic, equitable, peaceful, stable and developed society.
Addressing as a chief guest in the inaugural ceremony of Government Girls Home Economics College in Abbotabad, the KP minister said that the PTI government was based on principles of equity and consistent rule of law which included women at the forefront of economic reconstruction activities and in the nation-building process.
He said that the PTI-led government was focusing on the education sector and for the first time in the history of this province, a sizeable budget had been allocated for the said sector.
He said the government had allocated Rs 1 billion in endowment fund for providing scholarships to needy students in colleges and universities. Keeping in view the importance of women’s education, age limit had been removed for females to get admission in any degree program in universities, he added.
The minister said, that a women’s lap is a child’s first institution; therefore, the government was putting in every effort to counter the menace of terrorism. He said that education is the key element to combat extremism through talented women, who play key role in molding their child’s future.
He said the government had established the first commerce college for women in the province. Meanwhile another home economics college would be established in district Noshera. Additionally,a women university would be established in district Mardan soon. He said that the PTI-led provincial government was taking steps to promote equality all over the province.
