Six arrested, over 300 kg unhygienic meat confiscated

The Livestock Department on Friday seized more than 300 kilograms unhygienic and substandard meat from different areas of the provincial capital, Lahore, during a search operation.

According to department, the operation was conducted against sellers of substandard meat and butchers in different areas of the city including Babu Sabu, Rajgarh, Chungi Amar Sadhu and Kenchi area.

The authorities confiscated 200kg substandard meat from Babu Sabu and Rajgarh whereas 120kg from Chungi and Kenchi was recovered.

Besides, six people were also detained and interrogated to unearth the supply chain of the heinous business.

PFA fines X2:

Meanwhile, Punjab Food Authority (PFA), in its ongoing operation against food outlets and eateries, recovered a huge quantity of substandard tea and arrested two culprits during the crackdown.

PFA team led by Food Safety Officer (FSO) Fareeha Anwar raided a godown of tea packing factory located in Delhi Gate locality.

During the raid, 2,500 kilogram of substandard tea was recovered and two culprits were arrested.

The PFA took the recovered tea in possession and handed over the detainees to police who after registering a case against them have started the investigation.

In related development, the production unit of Citi Bread in Nishtar Town and X2 restaurant in Gulberg Town were fined due to unhygienic conditions while Zenith meat shop in Johar Town was sealed because of the owner was not able to produce medical certificates of food handlers.

In the meanwhile, Shinghai, a Chinese restaurant located in Gulberg town, was also sealed owing to non-availability of soaps in washing area.
