The Lahore High Court (LHC) has deferred the petition challenging professorship of Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran and dismissed writ petition against Dr Shazia Qureshi regarding her appointment as University Law College principal.
Dr Kamran’s professorship was challenged by former professor of Urdu Department Dr Aurangzeb Alamgir.
Hearing the petition, Justice Ejazul Hasan asked the lawyer of Dr Alamgir that whether an appointment could be challenged after 25 years upon which the lawyer could not give satisfactory arguments. PU legal advisor Malik Awais Khalid Advocate submitted before the court that Dr Mujahid Kamran had retired as professor and at the time of his appointment, LHC’s chief justice attended the meeting of the Syndicate. He said that the writ petition was not maintainable and may be dismissed with fine. After hearing arguments, the court directed Dr Alamgir to give arguments regarding the maintainability of the petition and deferred the case.
Meanwhile, University Law College’s faculty member Dr Shahbaz Cheema had filed a review petition against Dr Shazia Qureshi regarding her appointment as the University Law College principal.
After hearing arguments from both sides, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah dismissed the writ petition.
