The Mingora-Saifu Shahid Road remained blocked on Thursday as over 400 Lady Health Workers (LHWs) protested not being paid wages for over 5 months.

The LHWs, who assembled in front of the General Bus Stand in Mingora, marched up to the district administration office in Saidu Sharif. They chanted slogans against the federal and provincial governments for their failure to deliver their salaries.

Lack of salaries forced many of the women to go without new clothes for their families on Eid ul Fitr – something they fear will re-occur on Eid ul Adha. One woman stated that her children had been forced to leave school because she couldn’t pay the tuition fees.

If the women aren’t paid, they’re threatening to boycott the upcoming anti polio drive in Swat.
