Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali takes oath as new CJP

Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali took oath as the 24th Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) in Islamabad on Thursday, succeeding Chief Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja.

President Mamnoon Hussain administered the oath in a ceremony held at the Presidency. 

The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee, three services Chiefs and diplomats of different countries besides judges of the apex court, provincial Governors and federal ministers.

Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali was born on 30 December 1951 in Hyderbad. He received his Bachelor s Degree in Commerce from University of Sindh in 1971 and the Bachelor s Degree in law and 1973 from the same university. 

He is a judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan since 3 August 2009. He also served as Acting Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan from July 3, 2014 to December 4,2014, and as Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court from 27 August 2008 to 2 August 2009.

Justice Jamali was one of the judges who refused to take fresh oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order No.1 of 2007.

  1. Why is the Prime Minister sitting with President. This is against all protocol in a Parliamentary Democracy! This also reflects some kind of complex he is suffering from. I also saw him on the Saluting Dias while President was viewing 23 March Parade.Ridiculous indeed!!!
