CTD arrests JUI-F leader in Faisalabad for hate speech

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) local leader Mufti Kifayatullah over alleged hate speech in Faisalabad.

According to details, Kifayatullah had allegedly uttered a hate-inciting speech at a mosque in Chiniot where he was invited on Wednesday night by a local leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). After detaining him, the CTD shifted him to an undisclosed location for questioning.

Sources said that Kifayatullah may be detained for 90 days.

The arrest came hours after the National Counter-Terrorism Authority (NACTA) announced a strict policy against ‘Takfir’ – an act of terming any Muslim as infidel – and contemplated criminalising it.
