8.17m children to be administered polio drops in Sindh: minister

Sindh Minister for Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar has said that during four days oral polio vaccination campaign in West, South and Malir districts of Karachi, almost 1.1 million children under five years had been administered polio drops while in second phase from 11 September to 14 September the remaining 1.1 million children in districts East, Korangi and Central will be administered polio drops.

He said this in a statement issued on Thursday. He said for rest of Sindh the campaign would be launched from 14 September to 17 September and approximately 8.17 million children including 2.2 million children of Karachi would be approached.

Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar said: “For the campaign, 3,400 teams have been deployed while adequate security arrangements the services of 2,300 policemen and 200 Rangers personnel have been hired. Besides, Dahar presided over a meting of all MSs and DHOs of Ghotki, Jacobabad, Kashmore and Sukkur at Obaru and directed them to improve condition in government hospitals. He warned if they did not take reformative measures, action would be taken against them. He also assured them to resolve their issues at the earliest so that they might work in a better environment.

The minister also inaugurated two hospital centers in Obaru. While talking to media men, he said that free treatment, medicines and tests were being provided to the hepatitis patients and the government was providing better facilities of treatment to the patients.
