Pakistan Muslim League (PML) Senior Central Leader and former deputy prime minister Parvez Elahi has asked the opposition to remain firm on their stance to boycott the elections till the resignation of sitting members of the Election Commission.

In a statement issued on Monday, he said that there is no guarantee about local bodies elections being held in a free, fair and transparent manner in the presence of the sitting members. There is ambiguity among the people about whether the present government will hold the local bodies polls or not despite electioneering campaigns and activities and the huge expenses incurred by the candidates.

Elahi further said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) are also insisting on the resignation of election commission members because there is no guarantee about how this election commission will conduct local bodies election in a transparent and impartial manner.

He said that as such the opposition parties should remain firm on the decision of boycotting the local polls till the resignation of the Election Commission.
