A Lahore High Court division bench on Monday granted bail to Shaukatullah Bangash, son of PPP’s Senator Saifullah Bangash, in connection with Qasr-e-Zauq scandal.

The bench ordered the accused to submit surety bonds of Rs 200,000 for availing the bail.

The bench headed by Justice Mehmood Maqbool Bajwa heard the bail application.

During the hearing, the accused’s counsel arguing before the court submitted that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had arrested the accused for illegal sale of the Qasr-e-Zauq Plaza which had been frozen by the bureau in connection with 1.38-billion-rupee Aglam fraud case.

He contended that the accused was a victim of Aglam fraud case because Sheikh Ayub and his son Sheikh Mohsin Ayub also defrauded him. Despite being a complainant in Aglam fraud case, the NAB arrested the accused on August 2, he added.

He pleaded the bench to grant benefit of the bail to the accused as no evidence was available against him.

However, the NAB’s counsel submitted that the bureau had recovered the amount from 19 accused in the matter. However, still recovery to this effect is pending from the accused and two others, he said. He pleaded the court to dismiss the bail as Rs 52 million have to be recovered from the accused.

However, the bench agreeing with arguments of accused’s counsel granted bail to him.
