Rawalpindi Bar Council (RBC) President Syed G M Shah has announced that the council would boycott all functions to be attended by Supreme Court Chief Justice Justice Jawwad S Khwaja due to “inappropriate behaviour by the learned judge towards the senior lawyers”.

While talking to Pakistan Today, G M Shah said that Justice Khwaja’s behaviour was “unbecoming for a chief justice” and the “humiliation” meted out with senior lawyers had forced the Bar to observe boycott of all functions being organised for the outgoing CJ, including the reference to be held in honour of the outgoing CJP.

“Justice Khwaja misbehaved with Barrister Ali Zafar and even he refused to adjourn cases as lawyers had to attend funeral prayers for late Abdul Hafeez Pirzada. This misbehaviour has badly affected the Bench and Bar relations. So the Bar has decided to observe boycott of Justice Khwaja. No lawyer from Rawalpindi Bar would attend any meeting attended by Justice Khwaja,” he added.

He said that despite requests made by Supreme Court Bar Association president and Pakistan Bar Council president, Justice Khwaja refused to accommodate senior lawyers. “If Justice Khwaja has no respect for Bar, we don’t have any compulsion to give him a warm send-off,” concluded G M Shah.
