A petition was filed on Friday in the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan stating that punishments for selling substandard meat do not match the heinous crime.
The petitioner maintained that small punishments are leading to increased selling of spurious meat.
Food authorities submitted a reply in the matter on the order of Justice Ijazul Hassan saying that the government officials said that a recommendation of five-year imprisonment for culprits had been forwarded to the higher-ups.
However, the court said that every citizen was fearful after continuous barrage of news from different cities about the issue. The court instructed the authorities to implement harsher punishments.
