Punjab Minister for Sports and Education Rana Mashhood has said the government was quite confident to hold the next edition of Punjab Youth Festival (PYF) in the near future, however, the dates of the mega event will be announced after upcoming local bodies elections.

He expressed these views while addressing the journalists at a lunch ceremony which was arranged in honour of sports, education and youth affairs reporters at Children Library Complex on Saturday.

Punjab Sports Board (PSB) Public Relations Officer Abdul Rauf Roofi performed as stage secretary.

Mashhood said that the PSB has organised plenty of sports activities during the last couple of years.

“It’s a fact that our sports department has turned out to be the most vibrant segment since 2012,” he said.

He further informed that short-, medium- and long-term plans have been initiated in the province for the smooth growth of sports.

“I’m personally monitoring all the activities event at district level,” he added.

Replying a question regarding the future of hockey in Pakistan, he said though Pakistan hockey is passing through a testing period but we are quite upbeat to overcome this hard time with some fair efforts.

“A powerful committee has been formed to initiate hockey at school level. The committee will monitor the proper holding of hockey events in all leading schools across the province,” he explained.
