Seminaries of twin cities to remain close on Defence Day

In a major action against miscreants in the federal capital, the police and Rangers personnel arrested 121 suspects including 12 Afghan nationals during a joint search operation in the Bhara Kahu area of Islamabad on Friday.

Police sources said that the search operation was conducted on a tip-off from security agencies and 121 suspects along with four 9mm rifles, 19 pistols, 890 bullets and other weapons were recovered in the operation.

According to details, the whole area of Bhara Kahu was cordoned off from 18 points, while the search operation was carried out in the houses identified by the intelligence agencies. Houses, hotels and hostels were also searched in the area to ensure no one escaped.

Police sources said that Bhara Kahu is infested with criminals, many of them Afghans who are living in the vicinity of the capital to carry out their criminal activities. Many are involved in other crimes including dacoities and theft of vehicles as well as smuggling and sale of narcotics and arms.

SEMINARIES TO BE CLOSED:

Meanwhile, the government has decided to shut down more than a dozen seminaries in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad because of security concerns ahead of Defence Day.

Official sources said that strict security arrangements had been made in the twin cities for Defence Day celebrations and that the seminaries would remain closed from September 5 to 7 while students would be sent home on vacations.

Mobile phone service will also remain suspended in the twin cities during the main ceremony of Defence Day.
