Nisar briefs PM on UK trip, COAS updates Sharif on CPEC security

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Friday called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and discussed the current security situation of the country. The interior minister also apprised the prime minister about his meeting with British leadership during his recent trip to the United Kingdom.

Nisar also briefed the PM about the visit of the Scotland Yard team to Pakistan that interrogated the accused in the murder of MQM leader Imran Farooq and the confessions made by them.

“Nisar’s recent visit was a continuation of last year’s talks aimed at getting support from British authorities in curbing MQM and Baloch insurgents who are currently seeking asylum in UK,” a source told Pakistan Today.

Further, the source revealed that the Pakistani government and UK authorities are in direct talks regarding cooperation in the ongoing Karachi operation as well as other strategic cooperation in the region.

The PM expressed satisfaction over the outcome of Nisar’s UK visit and hoped that it would bring the desired results soon. He also expressed satisfaction over implementation of National Action Plan including operation in Karachi and made it clear that action would continue till restoration of complete peace in the city.

Meanwhile, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif called on PM Sharif in a separate meeting and discussed measures taken to provide effective security coverage to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Matters related to the internal security of the country were also discussed at the meeting between the two.
