Govt believes in freedom of media, says PM

Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif said on Thursday while talking to the head of Committee on Media Code of Conduct and PM’s Special Assistant Irfan Siddiqui that media had an important role to play in eliminating terrorism, extremism and sectarianism from the country.

Prime minister said that the role of media was “of vital importance” with reference to national interest and development of the country and that the government completely believed in the freedom of media.

He said consensus on media’s code of conduct was a very positive development. He expressed the hope that serious efforts would be made for implementation of the code of conduct. Prime minister praised the efforts of the committee on media’s code of conduct.

Irfan Siddiqui gave a detailed briefing to the prime minister on the recently prepared code of conduct.
