Biomedical Engineering offers growth opportunities: SSUET Chancellor

Chancellor of Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET), Engineer Muhammad Adil Usman has said that biomedical engineering is basically the field in which engineering skills are applied to medicine and biology focusing on the improvement of healthcare, which includes all sorts of treatments.

He was speaking at the concluding ceremony of Biomedical Engineering Convention 2015, organized by the Biomedical Engineering Department of Sir Syed University. Engineer Usman pointed out that Sir Syed University was the first university which introduced the discipline of biomedical engineering in Pakistan in 1996. Since its inception and till now, around 1800 students have secured their future as biomedical engineers with dynamic career growth in Pakistan and abroad.

Addressing the convention, he said, “Biomedical Engineering is a research oriented branch that is definitely a new but a promising career option. It involves studying all types of engineering ranging from electronics, computers, mechanical, chemical and nanotechnology. Biomedical Engineering definitely offers growth opportunities if you have got some experience with you.”

Earlier speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Ali Raza Jafri, Chairman Biomedical Engineering, NED University of Engineering & Technology, said that Biomedical Engineering is a rapidly growing field due to bad eating habits all over the world. Biomedical engineering profession has 72 percent, 10 year job growth forecast. Biomedical Engineers need innovation for technological advancement to reduce healthcare cost.

Engineerr Tahir Uddin, Technical Head Technoman, said biomedical engineers provide support to the scientists in neuroscience. Engineer Abdul Muqeet and Engineer Muhammad Junaid Khan also spoke on the occasion.

The SSUET’s chancellor presented souvenirs to the guests and certificates to the students. Registrar Engr Syed Abrar Ali also shared his views with the audience.
