Pakistani actress Resham’s new movie “Swaarangi” will be released in Punjab, according to producer Mazhar Abbas.

Speaking to Galaxy Lollywood’s editor, the producer revealed that the movie -which was banned by Pakistan’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) – will be releasing all over Punjab after the province’s censor board passed it with zero cuts.

But it is not so happy news for mature cinema goers in Islamabad; the film has been completely banned in the Islamabad Capital Territory and cantonments.

Initially Swaarangi was to be released on August 28th. Two days before the release, it was revealed that the release has been postponed to September 11. It was delayed as a gesture to support Pakistani movies already running in cinema.

“With a limited number of screens in the country, and the high number of local releases, it would have been very difficult to accommodate in theaters on its initial release date,” a press release stated.

Later the news broke out on social media that Resham’s come back film had been banned for representing an ‘inappropriate image of Pakistan’.

“A panel decided that the film can’t be screened in its present form for public viewing,” Chariman CBFC, Mobashir Hasan told a local media representative.

Swaarangi is said to be a message oriented film that is based on real life events. According to the team, it talks about social issues that exist in the country, highlighting  the plight of drug addicts in Pakistan.

Swaarangi has been shot in distant locations near Kalabagh, Punjab. It has been directed by Fida Hussain. Besides Resham, the film stars Ayub Khosa, Naveed Akbar, Waseem Manzoor, Hamza Mushtaq and Shahzaib Johar.
