Former member finance Oil and Gas Regularity Authority (OGRA), Kamal Marri, the main accused in the OGRA scam, and his counsel thrashed a prosecution witness, Muhammad Yasin, before an accountability court judge on Thursday.
Accountability Judge Muhammad Bashir was recording the statement of the prosecution witness in the Rs 82 billion OGRA scam when Marri’s counsel Advocate Qausain Faisal Naqvi attacked and roughed up Yasin.
Yasin, a senior officer from OGRA and a complainant against the accused in the OGRA scandal, was thrashed by the counsel of the accused, while the judge fled to his chamber room to save himself from the imbroglio.
Later, the judge put off hearing in the case and left the court declaring that, “The court cannot function in such an atmosphere.”
The judge who himself was witness to the hooliganism reportedly issued a show cause notice to Naqvi and recommended the cancellation of his license.
Yasin said that he was facing life threats from all of the accused in the OGRA scam and on his request the Supreme Court has provided him security and police officers have been deployed at his residence.
“The accused wanted to take my life,” he said vowing to record his statement even though his life was at stake.
He also urged the Punjab Bar Association to expel black sheep from their ranks and take action against Naqvi for attacking him and violating the court’s sanctity in the process.
