MQM Chief questions solitary arrest of Dr. Asim, says bigger corruption scams still unchecked

Reacting to a statement by Opposition Leader in the NA, Syed Khursheed Shah of PPP, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Wednesday night termed the attempt to link Dr Asim Hussain’s arrest to his party (MQM) as sheer injustice.

Shah had urged the government to ban the MQM after proving that it was a terror outfit if Dr Asim was arrested for abetting it.

Speaking to members of Rabita Committee and other administrative departments via telephone from London, Hussain said that efforts were underway to divert allegations levelled against Dr Asim towards the MQM.

“Today an attempt is being made to prove a thief as an innocent man and vice versa,” he said.

The MQM chief questioned the arrest of only Dr Asim while other PPP leaders, who he claimed were involved in even bigger corruption scams, were roaming freely.

Hussain reiterated that his party and ethnic mohajir community were being targeted in the ongoing operation by Rangers and police in Karachi.

He said attempts were being made to implicate MQM officials and workers in every single incident. “Overall situation indicates that the operation is being carried out against MQM only,” he added.

The MQM chief vowed not to give up what he termed their ‘peaceful struggle’ come what may.
