Iran has proposed to Bangladesh to join the gas pipeline project that is due to supply Pakistan’s dire energy needs with Iran’s natural gas resources.

Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh Abbas Vaezi was quoted as saying by Dhaka Tribune. He voiced Tehran’s readiness to export oil and gas to Bangladesh, and added that Iran was ready to extend Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline to Bangladesh. He said Iran had talked with Pakistani and Indian sides over the gas pipeline project and was prepared to negotiate with Bangladeshi officials about the extension of the pipeline.

Vaezi said that Iran and Bangladesh had already had talks in this regard, but the project needed feasibility studies before implementation. The Iranian ambassador also said that Iran had invited Bangladeshi Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid to visit Tehran for discussing gas exports to Bangladesh and cooperation on other energy fields.
