Authorities seize 1800Kg substandard meat, nab ten culprits

Police, Livestock and Dairy Development Department in joint operations on Thursday seized at least 1800 Kilograms (Kg) dead animals’ meat in Rawalpindi and Lahore.

The authorities arrested as many as ten culprits and registered cases against them in different operations. The development is p[art of  efforts by the provincial authorities to nab criminals involved in selling of substandard and adulterated meat.

In the early hours on Thursday, police and livestock authorities conducted an operation and seized at least 40 ton meat in Arya Mohalla. The haram meat was brought to Rawalpindi from Mandi Bahauddin. The police apprehended Adnan, Ishriaq and Habeebullah.

Separately, at least 200 Kilogram (Kg) meat was seized by law enforcers in Lahore’s Thokar Niaz Baig area. Livestock authorities said that the dead animals’ meat was brought to Lahore from out of station. As many as seven culprits were arrested in the operation.

In another operation, authorities seized stock freezed at a store in Karol Ghati area. Officials said that the meat was stored against hygienic rules.

Earlier on September 2, Punjab Food Authority (PFA) had conducted an operation on a tip-off near Lahore Railways Station and seized at least 80Kg meat. Samples were sent to laboratory to confirm meat’s quality and kind. However, no report has surfaced in the matter since past 22 hours.
