Prime Minister and Army Chief discuss Karachi operation, national security

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Rahaeel Sharif called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Tuesday.

They discussed country’s security situation, ongoing targeted operation in Karachi, rehabilitation work in FATA and the recent visit of US National Security Advisor Susan Rice.

According to sources, the Army Chief informed the Prime Minister that operation Zarb-e-Azab has entered last phase and rehabilitation process of Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) will begin after completion of the operation.

In the meeting, the PM and COAS decided to continue targeted operation against extortionists, terrorists and their facilitators.

General Raheel Sharif also briefed the premier regarding his recent meetings with the US National Security Advisor and German Foreign Minister, according to sources.

Matters pertaining to Afghan peace process were also discussed.
