Lawyer’s killing – court’s proceedings remain suspended

The legal fraternity on Monday continued their protest against the assassination of Sindh High Court (SHC) advocate Syed Ameer Haider Shah.

On the call of Sindh Bar Council, the lawyers stayed away from the court, causing the suspension of court proceeding; however, hearings of the main cases were conducted in the judges’ chambers.

A general body meeting of Sindh High Court Bar Association also condemned the brutal murder of advocate Shah. The meeting was presided over by their President, Barrister Abid S Zuberi.

This is a heinous crime and an attempt to undermine the judicial system and independent judiciary, the meeting observed.

The association requested the Sindh High Court chief Justice to direct to all concerned agencies and departments including MI, ISI, and Sindh Rangers to probe into the killing. The association demanded the concerned authorities to arrest the culprits within eight days and bring them to justice.

The association also demanded that the Sindh government pay an immediate compensation of Rs 20 million to the widow and children of the deceased, and set up a fund for them.
