Two CAA engineers killed in Jiwani Airport ambush

At least two Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) engineers were killed Sunday when heavily-armed militants launched a pre-dawn attack on CAA installations at the JiwaniAirport near Balochistan’s Gwadar port.

A CAA employee was also injured in the attack, which took place around 3am. He was shifted to Karachi in view of his critical condition.

Sources said at least six miscreants riding motorcycles were involved in the attack on the airport which had been non-functional for last few years. The attackers damaged technical aviation equipment and destroyed the VOR system that helps during the landing of aircraft, they said.

Khalilullah, an electronics superintendent of the CAA posted in Jiwani, was gunned down by the attacker, while another engineer Mehmoodullah Niazi was taken away by the terrorists as they escaped. However, Mehmoodullah’s body was also found hours after security and law enforcement authorities launched a search operation to recover the CAA engineer. Local administration has also confirmed Mehmoodullah’s death.

Security forces are currently continuing its search operation to track the attackers but so far, no headway has been made in the investigation.

Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Malik Baloch has ordered the commissioner in Makran district to submit a report into the incident. He has also ordered authorities to act against the terrorists using full force.

The banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has accepted responsibility of the attack.
