Rashid says Khan wants to flee by-polls

Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid Sunday said Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) members’ resignation demand of Imran Khan was an excuse to flee from by-elections.

Talking to a private TV channel, he said the incomplete Election Commission could not hold the elections. Imran Khan was frightened to participate in by-elections that was why he was making lame excuses to flee from it, he added.

Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan was exerting pressure on ECP members to resign. It was tantamount to technical retreat from the upcoming by-election making impossible the holding of elections, providing opportunity to Khan to flee.

PTI should take legal course for removing the ECP members instead of threatening them. PML-N respected reservations of PTI but organizing demonstrations and insulting the national institutions was not an appropriate thing, he added.

He reminded that the PTI had already participated in Local Body elections in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa (KPK) and various by-elections under the same ECP members.

PTI would be defeated in the by-elections in the two constituencies, NA-122 and NA-154 with huge margin, he said adding, Imran Khan had twice been defeated by the candidates of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) from the same constituency of Lahore in the General Elections of 2002 and 2013, then how his nominated candidate could win the elections.
