Govt dividing nation by unleashing political victimisation: Wattoo

While welcoming the statement of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party co-Chairman and former president Asif Ali Zardari on Monday, PPP Punjab President Manzoor Wattoo has said the PPP co-chairman has perfectly represented the sentiments of the PPP rank and file and the people of Pakistan

In a statement issued, he regretted that while the nation was united against terrorism and extremism and standing behind the army, the government was dividing the nation by unleashing the political victimisation campaign against the political opponents.

He added that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was repeating the history of nineties. “Sharif has not learnt anything from the mistakes he has made in the past,” he said.

He said that Pakistan’s all time enemy, India, was killing the innocent people of Pakistan and the government had turned its guns towards the political opponents instead towards the enemy of the country residing across the borders.

He observed that it was easy to form a government with majority after doubtful mandate but to run the government without the co-operation of the opposition political parties was not possible. It is a matter of ordinary prudence and the rulers should appreciate it instead of disapproving it, he added.

He pointed out that the nation was facing the existential threat emanating within and without and the government should pay full attention to forge unity in the nation instead of sowing the seeds of disunity to the disadvantage of democracy and the war against terrorism. Such course of action is bound to raise the question regarding sense of proportion of the rulers, he added.
