Rafi Peer Theater Workshop, in collaboration with Norwegian Embassy and Rawalpindi Arts Council, presented a gender-based stage play “Is Diye Ko Jalne Do”, written by Ejaz Rizvi and directed by Tipu Sultan.
The poetry of Fatima Hassan, Yasmin Hameed and Mansoora Ahmed has also been used in the play to give musical effect. Senior artist Aslam Sheikh, Shujaat Haider, Yusra Anwar, Saud Butt, Rabia, Abdul Wakeel, Jannat, Feroz Butt, Urwa Hyat, Ehtsham and Ali Hyder were included in the cast.
The characters of the play – Barkate, Fatima, Maryam, Naureen, policemen, husband, father, brother, newspaper agent and politician –represented different segments of society. Barkate, Fatima, Maryam and Naureen in form of mother, sister, daughter and wife are the characters of society who fail to get social status to which they deserve despite constant labor.
Barriers in getting education, gender discrimination, insecurity, outdated customs and traditions and non-implementation of laws are the main hindrances for a woman in way of enjoying social status.
The play opens with screams of Barkate at police station, pleading for the release her daughter who has been arrested on the complaint of a landlord.
Addressing on the occasion, RAC Resident Director Waqar Ahmed said that a meaningful message is being conveyed through stage play. The drama will be staged from August 28 to 30.
