Militants destroy radar system at Jiwani airport, kill one, kidnap engineer

Electronic supervisor of Civil Aviation was martyred and another employ was injured in an attack by armed militants at civil aviation authority radar at Jiwani airport early Sunday morning.

At least six miscreants riding motorcycles were involved in the attack on Jiwani airport, police said.

Police sources said that terrorists also abducted electronic engineer. The sources said the airport was dysfunctional for a long time.

A spokesman for Civil Aviation said that unknown armed men barged into Jiwani Airport, targeted its radar system and opened indiscriminate fire at the officials.The spokesman said important installations of the civil aviation at the airport were destroyed.

He said after destroying important installation the terrorists managed to escape.  “The VOR system which helps in landing of airplanes was also damaged in the attack,” he said. 

The deceased was identified as Electronics Supervisor Khalidullah.

The security forces rushed to the site and have cordoned off the entire area. A search operation has been launched to trace the suspects.

The local Levies officials said that banned militant organization might be behind the attack.

According to reports, security was not tight in and around the airport at the time of attack.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. In the past, militants attacked the Pasni Radar Station in the region.
