KU to start 2-year programme of PhD in criminology

A two-year PhD programme in criminology will be introduced at the University of Karachi.

The approval to this effect was given at the first meeting of the Board of Studies, Department of Criminology, University of Karachi.

It was presided over by Chairman of the Department of Criminology, Prof Dr Fateh M Burfat. Prof Dr Col Muhammad Yaqoob Khan, Dr Col M Altaf Tahir, Dr Abdul Razzaq Ahmed, Dr Raja Pervez Ahmed Shaikh, Director Ministry of Defence, Dr Ghulam Burfat, Associate Professor and Dr Naima Saeed, Assistant Professor attended the meeting.

The members congratulated Prof Dr Fateh Burfat for becoming the founder/chairperson of Criminology Department and expressed the hope that under his supervision the department would play a pivotal role in the development of studies and higher education.

In the meeting, for the course of 30 credit hours, philosophy of social sciences, research methods in criminology, criminal justice system and management, social policy and crime, application of computer and statistics in crime were inducted.

Moreover, the approval was given for a two-year programme of PhD in criminology and the subject of 30 credit hours was declared compulsory.
