Karachi – our PTI correspondent: At a press conference in Karachi, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan made a formal request for Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to be made the chief election commissioner, not just for the upcoming series of by-polls but also for the next general elections.
“Mr Zuckerberg is a tried-and-tested, proved entity who has shown the ability to build a platform that can truly assess the will of the people,” said Mr. Khan.
“In fact, as we know that the people of Pakistan now all – down to the last one of them – not only have Facebook accounts but also take the medium seriously, it would be pertinent for the election commission itself to be replaced by Facebook,” Khan said, adding that, “an online poll would save the government a whole lot of money.”
While it remains to be seen whether the government would agree to the demand, but political analysts have already taken to the social media platform to ascertain who the frontrunners in the elections are going to be.
“It’s too early to tell,” Haider Bhatti, a political analyst working for a think-tank, says, “But we have a list of frontrunners. It is, in descending order: PTI, Pervez Musharraf, Atif Aslam, K’s Bridals, De$I Gurlz Rokk and Papa Ki PryncE$$.”
