TDAP briefs NA body about reasons for drop in exports

National Assembly Standing Committee on Commerce here Friday visited Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) and the MNAs were briefed about the issues being faced by the exporters; leading to decrease in exports in fiscal year 2014-15.

TDAP’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) SM Muneer informed the NA Committee that the manufacturing process was affected by the gas and electricity shortage.

He also pointed out that water shortage created by water mafia in the city has also affected the industrial activities. Companies are forced to spend lot of money on purchasing their own stolen water from the same mafia, he said.

He pointed out that the exporters Rs 200 billion stuck up refunds. He also informed the parliamentarians that TDAP was and would be making every possible effort to promote exports.

TDAP’s Secretary further informed the committee that TDAP is giving special attention on promoting women entrepreneurs and SMEs. WEXNET which is an event for women exporters only will be held here in December this year.

Alishan Pakistan will also be held next year in the major international cities, she said.

Chairman of NA Standing Committee on Commerce, Siraj Muhammad Khan was of the view that TDAP should take the committee into confidence for important issues so that it could highlight the TDAP’s problems more effectively in the Parliament.
