  • PTI chief slams ECP for not extending tribunals’ period

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Friday night said he welcomes the reports that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) may file a reference against him.

In a message posted on twitter, he said that move on part of the electoral body would provide him with an opportunity to present more evidence that the ECP was in cahoots with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the 2013 General Election.

Imran Khan has strongly criticised the Election Commission after the recent election tribunal decisions that turned out to be in favour of the PTI.

He had demanded resignations of all four provincial members of the electoral body after re-polling was ordered in NA-122, NA-125 and NA-154 constituencies.

Earlier on Friday, Khan tweeted that “there were no doubts left now” that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was bias after its decision of not extending contracts of tribunals’ members Kazim Malik and Rana Zahid following verdicts against thePML-N.

Khan said that Justice (r) Kazim was only acceptable to ECP when he gave 30 verdicts in favour of Nawaz Sharif’s party.

The statement comes a day after Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (r) Sardar Raza refused to extend contracts of Lahore election tribunal’s member Kazim Ali Malik and other two tribunals of Punjab, asking the Lahore High Court chief justice to name judges for the new appointments. The terms of the above mentioned judges are going to end on August 31.

All these three judges had given verdicts against PML-N leaders. Kazim Malik had given verdict against Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Javed Rasheed had given verdict against Khawaja Saad Rafique while Rana Zahid had declared the results of NA-154 as invalid.
