Baghlan provincial police said on Thursday they had arrested the man who allegedly beheaded his wife in central Baghlan recently.
According to Baghlan police the man, named Attiqullah, is a resident of Baghlan and was taken into custody on Wednesday night.
Attiqullah allegedly beheaded his wife after a court failed to grant her a divorce.
The woman, Trina, apparently married her husband nearly a year ago but was so unhappy she filed for a divorce a few months back.
However, no divorce was granted. Instead, tribal elders got involved and ordered the couple to spend a few days together in a room they had built for them.
Trina’s sister on Wednesday called on government to ensure justice is carried out.
“Trina’s husband killed her very brutally – no one even kills an animal like this,” one of Trina’s male relatives said.
