A local leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has been allegedly found involved in the construction of an “illegal” skyscraper over a nullah in a posh sector of the federal capital, Pakistan Today learnt through sources in the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

The under-construction Capital Residencia Tower, the said 14-storey plaza in Sector E-11/4, has blocked the only drainage system of the area, leaving the streets inundated with sewage.

The area locals have complained being exposed to health and commuting hazards with four feet deep sewage swarming the area, which is also posing a threat to health of their properties. They have demanded of the authorities to take strict action against this illegal construction.

Per CDA sources, the said project is partly owned by PML-N leader and former MNA Anjum Aqeel.

Sources told Pakistan Today that the skyscraper was being constructed illegally with the “mutual understanding” of Police Foundation Administration and a land mafia.

“CDA has recently finished its successful operation against encroachments in Sector I-11 and is planning to move further. However, no operation has been carried out against this skyscraper due to the political clout of Anjum Aqeel,” sources added.

Speaking of Aqeel, he was removed by a court in National Police Foundation scam. He was involved in Rs 6 billion land scandal in Islamabad’s E-11 National Police Foundation Housing Society.

Talking to this scribe, CDA Public Relation Director Mohammad Ramzan Sajid confirmed that Capital Residentia Tower was illegal and its owners had not obtained No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from CDA.

Sajid further exposed CDA’s failure in taking action against the law violators, claiming that there were other multi-storey buildings in the E-11 and many of them have not been able to get NOC from CDA. “Obviously all such constructions are illegal,” he added.

According to Capital Residencia Tower Manager Faisal, the project has no NOC from CDA but the construction is on with “mutual understanding”. He also said this project was owned by different partners and Anjum Aqeel was one of them.

Talking to Pakistan Today, Capital Residencia Tower Marketing Manager Gul Fraz claimed having all the documents while Capital Residencia Tower Management Manager Amir was not aware of anything about the approval from CDA or any other documentation.
