At least 35 Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) soldiers were reportedly killed and nearly 60 wounded in a Taliban attack on Musa Qala district of Helmand province, officials confirmed Thursday.
Helmand provincial council head Mohammad Karim Atal confirmed the incident and said at least 35 security force members were killed and nearly 60 wounded in the attack.
Helmand provincial council said this comes after a week-long clash between the Taliban and troops in the area.
On Wednesday some officials claimed the district had fallen into the hands of the Taliban. However, other officials rejected this but did confirm that heavy clashes were ongoing in the area.
But, on Thursday, again conflicting reports emerged when provincial governor spokesman Omar Zowak said only five troops had died and 10 were wounded in the latest clash.
Officials have however said that in the past week at least 150 Taliban insurgents have been killed.
There has been no comment from the Taliban as of yet.
