The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday directed the managing director of Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) to submit a comprehensive report regarding closure of illegal water hydrants in the city.
The SHC bench was hearing a petition filed by Rana Faizul Hasan, general secretary of a NGO, seeking closure of illegal water hydrants in the metropolis.
On Wednesday’s hearing, the SHC directed the KWSB MD to submit a comprehensive report to inform the court what action has been taken by the department regarding closure of illegal water hydrants. The court sought the report within 15 days.
The petitioner submitted that ‘water mafia’ through illegal hydrants was being allowed to sell water to citizens at exorbitant rates. He stated the Karachiites were experiencing acute shortage of water due to illegal water hydrants.
The petitioner pleaded the court to direct the responds to take action against these illegal hydrants and make their closure as soon as possible. He also requested the court to direct the KWSB MD to allow water filling in allotted timings at the governments’ hydrants.
