Pakistan Keen to Join EEU Free Trade Area: Nawaz Sharif

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistan is interested in signing a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union(EEU).

The prime minister is currently on an official visit to Kazakhstan.

“Pakistan wants to sign a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union. This will promote fruitful cooperation between the EEU and the Pakistani business community,” Sharif said in an interview with the Kazakh Express.

Nawaz Sharif said Kazakhstan “can be very helpful in maintaining the free trade agreement, since being an active member of the association.”

The Eurasian Economic Union, comprising Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia, is an international organization to streamline the flow of goods and services between its member countries.

More than 40 countries and international organizations, including China, Thailand, Indonesia and Cambodia, have expressed interest in creating a free trade area with the EEU, according to Russian Economic Development Minister Alexey Ulyukaev.
