Defence Day this year is being celebrated as the golden jubilee year of the 1965 War victory against four time bigger enemy India. The day is observed to eulogize the sacrifices and acts of valour of our jawans and officers, many of whom embraced martyrdom and others emerged as ghazis. My hats are off for those who dared and who left a legacy for others to follow.
India on the other hand is claiming victory in 1965 War and wrongly projecting it through its effective media. On Pakistani media’s part one sees lack of knowledge and lack of cohesion, it seems we are not fully aware the facts on ground. We need to understand the circumstances, the events and how the entire nation came united at the back of the armed forces and defeated the enemy on many fronts. The point is if India had won the war, why then it rushed to seek the help of the UN to appeal for a ceasefire?
Obviously this war affected the economies of both the countries but this is naturally an outcome of a war. There is a need to rewrite our military history with eye witness accounts, so that to deter enemy’s media onslaught. We need to highlight and teach the masses as to why, despite three wars, the issue of Kashmir could not be resolved.
