Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif on Wednesday said the nation stood united in war against terrorism as witnessed in the face of Indian aggression in 1965.

He stated this while meeting with the office holders and representatives of APNS, CPNE and PBA in connection with commemorating the 50th anniversary of 1965 war with India.

Asif said the whole nation would commemorate the 50th anniversary of Defence Day in a befitting manner and will pay homage to the soldiers who defended the motherland and were still ‘standing like a rock’ against the enemies of state.

He said that both print and electronic media could play an important role in paying tribute to our martyrs for their countless sacrifices for the defense of the country. He added that poets, musicians and singers were instrumental in creating a national spirit of the nation which formed an iron wall against aggression of the enemy and we should not forget their contribution.

Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid, who was also present during the meeting, urged the media organisations to play their due role in informing and educating the younger generation with national spirit that was witnessed during 1965 war. He said that we are a one nation in defense of the country. Our narrative is peace but in case of aggression, we know how to defend ourselves.

The representatives of the media organizations also highlighted their role in bringing together unity and national spirit in the country and agreed that they will play their role in informing the younger generation of our history and national achievements.
